The six ways to hire, by type
Almost every service falls into one of six buckets. Pick the bucket that matches your situation first, then compare the specific providers inside it. That is a far more useful exercise than a ranked list, because the “best” option for a bilingual nearshore team is not the best for a phone-heavy home-services shop.
Flat-fee customer service specialists
Hirevado
How it works. A one-time placement fee to find and vet a rep you then employ and pay directly. Screening is customer-service specific: phone clarity, empathy, complaint handling, scheduling.
Who it fits. First or second remote hire, phone-heavy support, home services, anyone who wants a predictable cost and a person they own rather than a shared or leased worker.
Percentage-based generalist staffing
Somewhere (formerly Support Shepherd)
How it works. Recruiters that place many role types across many countries. Somewhere publishes a fee of 35% of first-year salary with a six-month guarantee and a refundable deposit to start a search.
Who it fits. Companies hiring several different roles (CS plus developers plus accountants) who want one vendor for everything and are comfortable with a percentage of salary.
LATAM staffing plus Employer of Record
Hire with Near
How it works. Latin America focused, and can act as your Employer of Record to run payroll, benefits and compliance. Pricing is quote-based and not published, so you have to ask.
Who it fits. Companies that specifically want Latin American talent for timezone overlap and want employment logistics handled rather than paying a rep directly.
Premium US and UK VA firms
BELAY, Boldly, Time Etc
How it works. Highly vetted US or UK based assistants, billed hourly. Published and reported rates are materially higher: BELAY around $40 to $46 an hour, Boldly $59 to $79 an hour, Time Etc roughly $36 to $39 an hour.
Who it fits. Companies that require a domestic worker for compliance, data sensitivity or brand reasons and can absorb multiples of an offshore cost.
Philippines seat and platform models
MyOutDesk, VirtualStaff.ph, and similar
How it works. Dedicated Philippines-based staff on a monthly seat fee (MyOutDesk is reported around $1,200 to $2,000 a month) or a platform fee where you pay the worker directly (VirtualStaff.ph). Confirm current terms with each directly.
Who it fits. Companies comfortable sourcing only from the Philippines who want platform management tools, and do not need native-accent phone work or a nearshore timezone.
Do-it-yourself job platforms
OnlineJobs.ph, Upwork
How it works. A subscription or marketplace where you post, screen and manage everything yourself. Cheapest by far, with no vetting layer and no replacement guarantee.
Who it fits. Experienced remote hirers with time to sort hundreds of applicants and their own management systems already in place.
Where Hirevado fits (our own pitch, stated plainly)
Since this is our site, treat this section as us making our case, not as an impartial ranking. Hirevado does one thing: remote customer service placement. We screen for the things a support role actually needs, phone clarity, empathy, complaint handling, scheduling under pressure, and present vetted, interview-ready candidates from several markets (the Philippines for cost, Jamaica for native English on US Eastern hours, Mexico or Colombia for bilingual Spanish) so you can compare with introduction videos before choosing.
The commercial terms are a flat fee of $1,499 or $2,499, never a percentage of the wage, with a 90 or 180 day guarantee and unlimited replacements inside that window. You employ and pay your rep directly, so there is no markup on their salary. Every placement includes Global OS, our onboarding system built for CS roles. The $2,499 plan adds an hour with the founder every weekday through your first 30 days. Where we lose, honestly: we only do customer service, so if you need developers, accountants or marketers, a generalist is your answer; and we do not act as an Employer of Record, so if you want employment fully handled for you, a service like Near or a dedicated EOR fits better.

Our client, real numbers
PJ ran a Detroit house-cleaning company and put the phones in the hands of four remote reps we placed. It went from $600K to over $2M a year, and one of those hires now runs the company as General Manager.
Read the full storyThe one trend that actually matters: AI plus people
The real 2026 shift is not that AI replaces support reps, it is that it raises the bar for the humans you keep. Gartner reported in February 2026 that 91% of customer service leaders are under executive pressure to implement AI, and its own guidance frames this as augmentation: let automation handle the simple, repetitive contacts and move your people to the complex, emotional, judgment-heavy work that AI cannot do well. The practical implication for hiring is to screen for empathy, problem-solving and comfort working alongside AI tools, not just for speed. A cheap, scripted VA is exactly the layer AI eats first. A genuinely skilled rep is the layer that becomes more valuable.
Six questions to ask any staffing provider
Whatever bucket you choose, these questions separate a specialist from a resume-forwarder. Vague answers are the tell.
- 1What is the replacement guarantee, and does it allow unlimited replacements inside the window or just one?
- 2What does vetting actually mean for a customer service role: do you test phone skills, complaint handling and empathy, or just review a resume?
- 3What is the total all-in cost over two years, including placement, ongoing fees and any EOR markup?
- 4Can I compare candidates from more than one market before deciding?
- 5What post-hire support exists, an onboarding framework and coaching, or nothing after placement?
- 6How long, on average, until you present qualified candidates?
A simple way to decide
If you are hiring customer service specifically and it is your first or second remote hire, a flat-fee CS specialist with real onboarding support removes the most risk. If you are staffing many different roles at once, a generalist's breadth is worth the percentage. If you specifically want Latin American talent with employment handled for you, a LATAM-plus-EOR service fits. If a US-based worker is a hard requirement, a premium US firm is the honest answer, at several times the cost. And if you have hired remotely before and have time to screen, a DIY platform is the cheapest path. Match the tool to the job rather than to a list.

AI adoption: Gartner press release, February 2026 (91% of customer service leaders under executive pressure to implement AI, from a survey of 321 leaders). Competitor terms: Somewhere publishes 35% of first-year salary with a six-month guarantee; premium-agency rates (BELAY, Boldly, Time Etc) and MyOutDesk's seat pricing are from those companies' own published or widely reported figures; providers that do not publish pricing are marked as such. Figures can change, so verify current terms directly with each provider before deciding. Hirevado has no affiliate relationship with any company named here.
