Offshore staffing for customer support: models, costs, and how to choose

Most vendor round-ups score everyone out of 50 with numbers the author made up. We are not doing that, and we are not pretending a guide that includes our own service is neutral. The more useful question is not “who is best,” it is “which engagement model fits you,” because that decision drives your cost and control far more than any brand name. Here are the three models, what each really costs, and how to choose.

A note on fairness: competitor figures below are only those the companies publish or that are widely reported. Where pricing is not published, we say so. Verify current terms with each provider. We have no affiliate relationship with any of them. For a companion piece organized by service type, see our guide to remote CS staffing options.

First, vendor vs agency is mostly a naming game

A traditional recruitment agency places a candidate for a one-time fee and steps back. A modern offshore “vendor” may do that, or may go further: employ the person for you, provide platform tools, or manage the whole function. The label matters less than the engagement model underneath it, so ignore the branding and look at how you actually end up paying and who actually employs the worker.

The three engagement models

Almost every provider is one of these three. Pick the model first, then compare providers inside it.

Direct-hire recruitment

Hirevado, Somewhere

How it works. A recruiter finds and vets the person; they become your employee and you pay them directly. Fees are one-time: Hirevado charges a flat $1,499 or $2,499, Somewhere publishes 35% of first-year salary.

Cost shape. Lowest long-term cost. One placement fee, then just salary.

Who it fits. Teams of roughly 1 to 20 who want to own the talent and either have payroll set up or will use a separate EOR.

Employer of Record (EOR) / staffing

Hire with Near, Deel, Remote

How it works. The provider is the legal employer and runs payroll, tax, benefits and compliance while you manage the work. Ongoing monthly fees per head. Near is LATAM-focused and quote-based; Deel and Remote are global.

Cost shape. Higher over time (ongoing fee per head), but removes compliance risk.

Who it fits. First international hires, no payroll infrastructure, or scaling past ~10 people in a country where compliance matters.

Managed service / BPO

SupportNinja, TaskUs, and enterprise BPOs

How it works. You buy support capacity, not individual employees. The provider recruits, trains, manages and runs QA. Pricing is custom and rarely published.

Cost shape. Highest per seat, but near-zero management burden on your side.

Who it fits. Enterprises outsourcing an entire support function or needing 50 to 100-plus agents, not small teams that want their own people.

Beyond these, there are Philippines-focused seat and platform providers (MyOutDesk publishes roughly $1,200 to $2,000 a month per seat; VirtualStaff.ph charges a platform fee while you pay the worker), premium US and UK hourly firms that cost multiples of an offshore hire, and pure DIY job boards where you do all the screening yourself. Confirm current terms with any of them directly, since pricing shifts.

What it really costs over three years

Placement fees are the number people compare. They are the wrong number. What matters is total cost over the life of the hire, and the fee structure, not the headline, drives it. Here is an illustrative model, not a quote and not a specific vendor result, for one rep at roughly $1,400 a month.

Fee structureWhat you pay
Flat one-time feeA fixed amount once, then only salary. Indifferent to what you pay the rep, so paying well to retain them costs you nothing extra.
Percentage of salaryA share of first-year pay. Quietly penalizes competitive salaries: pay the rep more and the fee rises with it.
Monthly seat / platformAn ongoing per-seat charge bundling salary and tools. Predictable, but you pay it every month for as long as they stay.
EOR monthlyA per-head compliance and payroll fee on top of salary. Real value if you lack payroll infrastructure, but it accrues for years.
Hourly (US / UK firms)Billed by the hour at domestic rates. For a full-time role this is the most expensive path by a wide margin.

The practical takeaway: for a full-time support role you keep for years, a one-time flat fee is usually the cheapest structure and an hourly US arrangement the most expensive, with percentage, seat and EOR models in between depending on salary and headcount. Run your own three-year numbers before signing anything.

Where Hirevado fits (our own pitch, stated plainly)

Since this is our site, read this as us making our case, not an impartial score. Hirevado is a direct-hire recruiter that does only customer service. We screen for what the role needs, phone clarity, empathy, complaint handling, scheduling, and present vetted candidates from several markets (Philippines for cost, Jamaica for native English on US Eastern hours, Mexico or Colombia for bilingual Spanish) with introduction videos so you can compare before choosing. The terms are a flat $1,499 or $2,499, never a percentage, with a 90 or 180 day guarantee and unlimited replacements inside it. You employ and pay the rep directly, so no markup on their wage, and every placement includes Global OS, our onboarding system. The $2,499 plan adds an hour with the founder every weekday through your first 30 days.

Where we lose, plainly: we only do customer service, so a multi-role team needs a generalist; we are not an Employer of Record, so if you want employment handled for you, an EOR or a service like Near fits better; and we are built for teams of roughly one to ten, not 100-seat BPO operations. We have helped over 40 cleaning companies make this move.

The head-to-heads

Our client, real numbers

PJ ran a Detroit house-cleaning company and put the phones in the hands of four remote reps we placed. It went from $600K to over $2M a year, and one of those hires now runs the company as General Manager.

The trend that should shape your screening: AI plus people

Gartner reported in February 2026 that 91% of customer service leaders are under executive pressure to implement AI, and separately predicts that by 2029 agentic AI will autonomously resolve about 80% of common customer service issues. Read together, those point one way: automation takes the simple, repetitive contacts, and the humans you keep are there for the complex, emotional, judgment-heavy work. So screen for empathy, problem-solving and comfort working alongside AI tools, not for speed on basic questions. The scripted, lowest-cost seat is exactly the layer automation replaces first; a genuinely skilled rep is the layer that gets more valuable.

Five questions to ask any provider

  1. 1Which model is this, direct hire, EOR, or managed service, and what is the total cost over three years, not just the placement fee?
  2. 2What does vetting mean for a customer service role specifically: do you test phone clarity, empathy and complaint handling, or just review resumes?
  3. 3What is the replacement guarantee, and is it unlimited inside the window or a single swap?
  4. 4Can I compare candidates from more than one market before committing to a geography?
  5. 5What happens after placement: is there an onboarding framework and support, or are we on our own?
